Use a Dialog/Conversion Framework for MLM Success

Michael Oliver’s Natural Selling Approach teaches us that manipulative questioning technique might work initially but while it’s possible to temporarily motivate people to do
something, there is a very interesting phenomenon that takes
place. After a short while they stop being motivated and stop
doing what they agreed to do.

This behavior is called passive aggression or buyer’s remorse.
You can see the effect of this when customers stop buying from
you, or people drop out from your organization.  This is usually
because they came on board for your reasons,
not theirs.  This is the number one cause of the high customer
and team attrition rate.

The Natural Selling Approach uses a “Dialogue/Conversation
Framework”* that explains what the types of questions are and
when to use them to help you and the person you are talking with
see clearly:

1. Whether they have the type of problems that your solution can
help them solve

2. If they do, the depth of those problems.

3. Whether there is enough desire for them to want to do
something.

Questions help people open their minds.  Questions involve
people.  They allow people to think about their present
situation, themselves and their problems.

Helping People Inspire Themselves to Change

The Natural Selling Approach is not about you persuading them,
it’s about allowing people to persuade themselves as they come to
see what is right for them.

This is how it works.

As people respond to your questions they also listen to
themselves. They;

1. Internalize what they say
2. Feel the discomfort of their present circumstances (and if
things are not working as well as they would like)
3. Decide to make a change.

Their answers help them think about their problems and to own the
idea that they want to change if their problems and internal
motivation is great enough.

It gives meaning to the saying “When I say it, they can doubt me.
When they say it, it’s true.”

The degree a person will change depends on two things;

1. The degree of discomfort they feel in the present moment as
they talk about their present circumstances, and their

2. Degree of their desire to move toward their dream

Make It Easy For Your Prospect

One of my mentors Tom ‘Big Al’ Schreiter says that making a decision to join your network marketing company should be easy, if you make it easy.

It can be quite overwhelming for a new prospect to make
a decision based upon the company, the company founders,
the mission statement, the products, the complicated
compensation plan and your entire upline support strategy.

However, you can make your prospect’s decision much
easier by showing how it makes more sense to join your
company than not to join your company.

How could you do it?

Here are 5 easy-to-understand mini-statements
to show the prospect why he should join your company
now.

  1. There are two types of people in the world:
=> Business owners who are getting rich, and
=> People who make business owners rich.
Which group would you like to belong to?

    2.  There are two types of people in the world:
=> Those who make car payments, and
    => Those who don’t.
Which group would you like to belong to?

    3.  There are two types of people in the world:
=> Those who pay too much income tax, and
    => Those who don’t.
Which group would you like to belong to?

    4. There are two types of people in the world:
=> Those who get a monthly bonus check in their
    mailbox once a month, and
    => Those who don’t.
Which group would you like to belong to?

    5.  There are two types of people in the world:
=> Those who have lots of energy and enhanced health, and
    => Those who don’t.
Which group would you like to belong to?

There are two types of people in the world:
=> Those who make monthly mortgage payments, and
    => Those who don’t.
Which group would you like to belong to?

Get the idea?

Make it easier for prospects to join than not to join your
business.

Before Jumping In To Any Opportunity…

This article is an excerpt from an articles written by Bob and Anna Bassett and features Sandy Botkin, well known CPA, attorney, and tax advisor to the self employed.  The focus of the articles is to make sure the prospect is asking the correct questions.

Sandy Botkin warns, “Before jumping into any opportunity, stop and breathe deeply. Let the enthusiasm cool off. Then begin the process of deciding which company to join by finding the answers to a few questions.” For example …

How stable is the company?

  • Two ways to judge a company’s stability are: first, get a credit report from Dunn and Bradstreet.
  • Second, find out how long the company has been using network marketing.
  • Most companies never survive the first two years.
  • Therefore, at least two years in the business is a good yardstick in judging a company’s stability.

Does the company stand behind the promises it makes about its products?

  • Call the company and ask these questions: Does the company validate their products’ claims, e.g., does a health food product have clinical trials done by independent laboratories?
  • What is the company’s refund policy if the customer is not satisfied?
  • How quickly do they refund the money?
  • What is the company’s buy-back policy on inventory purchased by distributors? Most companies promise to buy back inventory not more than a year old. But sometimes this policy is illusory because of the complex administrative hoops the distributor must jump through and because there is no limit on when the refundable money must be paid back to the distributor.
  • Finally, buy the product and try it. Do you like it?

Are You A Computer Wastasaurus?

OK!    What the heck is a “Wastasaurus?”   According to the new and unabridged Tom Boyuka dictionary a “Wastasaurus” is:

that type of individual that sits in front of their computer for 2-3 hours and ‘works’ on their networking business but in reality only produces about 5-10 minutes of actual useful knowledge to benefit their networking opportunity.”

Other characteristics of a person with this malady is a feeling of non accomplishment followed by periods of self doubt, self pity and a feeling of hopelessness as they plunder through the seemingly over whelming shark infected waters of network marketing.

Do You Have Wastasaurus Syndome (WS)?

The following are some characteristics of behavior WS

  • Do you spend time scrolling through emails announcing can’t miss opportunities?
  • Are you looking for that “Silver Bullett” marketing system that will put your opportunity on cruise control?
  • Do you find yourself going to various social sites looking at other people’s opportunities?
  • Are you “Flying By The seat of Your Pants” with no set agenda or goals for today’s activities or work?

Causes:  The main cause of “Wastasaurus Syndrone” is a poorly defined work ethic coupled with the lack of direction and the help of a caring team of mentors for your success.  This is very common with so called newbies in the field of network marketing who feel that they are ‘smart’ enough  to go it alone.  They were a success in what ever business that they were previously involved with so the incorrectly figure they can do it all themselves.

They have been ‘hyped’ and “hoped’ by their sponsors and upline and have fallen into the trap of ‘Guruitis’.

“Guruitis”  is defined in the Tom Boyuka dictionary as the feeling that only through the help of an unknown ‘Guru’ will you be able to achieve success with your home business.  Of course along the way the unsuspecting person is subject to monthly fees and charges for so called ‘marketing information’, ‘secrets formulas’ and ‘auto responders’ and ‘purchased leads’.  As the money continues to drip drip out of your wallet with these charges the victim  is getting further away from their goal of success with a home based Internet business.

Along with “Guruits” the new person starts to think that there is something wrong with them and that they were never meant to be successful.  This feeling of non self confidence continues until the person gives up and quits.

The Solution:

In order to recover from WS you need to get a game plan for success.  Network marketing is an simple business but not necessarily an easy business.

It is very easy to work for someone else…show up at 8:00am…Do your job…Quit work at 5:00 pm and go home and get paid for your labor.  BUT…try being your own boss and become an entrepreneur and set your own hours and work schedule and be responsible only to yourself.  Now this is a bit different.

In order to be successful you need a team to work with.

The Team:      The following are some of the things the team does for you.

  • The Team helps you get started with clear and concise instructions
  • The Team offers you instruction on skills you need to be successful
  • The Team will show you a duplicatable system that works for you
  • The Team will answer your questions and provide the latest in network

marketing information.

Telling You How it Is

• You are perfect the way You are!  You just need to be coachable.
• People are not duplicatable – systems are.  Your Mentor MUST have a Teachable   system.
• To be successful in network marketing, You must “partner-up” with a 5 Pillars company.
• Networking is a simple business; NOT necessarily an easy business.
• If You apply yourself in a Teachable system, You can be Successful.

They Call It NetWORK Marketing For A Reason

They call it NetWORK Marketing for a reason…and that is that you must do some WORK to be successful.  It is not called NetFREE Marketing or NetDO-NOTHING Marketing for again a specific reason….and I REPEAT!!!  You must do the WORK!, …do you finally get that?  The work is NOT difficult (We will not be digging ditches with a shovel) but it is not necessarily an EASY business.

For those poor naïve souls that have been sold a bill of goods by unscrupulous marketers that all you need to do is purchase a system and like magic your computer becomes your own personal ATM machine I feel sorry for you.  This is the same for those poor unguided souls who joined an MLM because they liked the product and never did their due diligence on examining the opportunity. See the Five Pillars below.

WAKE UP!!  If making money on the internet was so EASY, then everyone would be doing it.

How to Get Started for Success in Network Marketing

Here are a few ideas that might help you:

  1. Get an Education in Network Marketing BEFORE you join an opportunity.  Make sure this education is given free of charge and without any strings attached.  Many so called Gurus will offer you a ‘System for Success’ then slowly bleed you dry with various ‘upgrades’ designed to relieve you of your hard earned money with false promises for success.
  2. Examine your own life and make sure that you truly have the ‘Stuff’ that is needed by answering these questions:
  • There is an investment required of both time and money, are you prepared to do this?  Do you have the money that is involved for start up costs, advertising, domains, office expenses and other common business outlays?  Do you have the hours every day that you can devote to your business.
  • Do you have good ‘WHYS’ that will help you through those times when things aren’t going quite the way you wish?  As Michael Dlouhy says “You need a strong reason to do it (work with your business), Then if WHAT you are doing doesn’t work, you’ll figure out some other way.  But if you are at all wishy- washy, you’re a goner”
  • Can you plan and manage your time so you will be persistent and consistent in your networking home business?  If you have 2-3 hours a day to devote to your business you must learn how to be highly effective with your time.  You are an entrepreneur so you must be flexible with not only your planning but your personal life.

Do you truly understand that network marketing is a relationship building businessman you must develop skills to learn how to build relationships.  Are you willing to learn relationship building skills so you become more effective when working with new prospects?

The Nuts and Bolts of Beginning MLM

Congratulations!  You have finally decided to join an MLM company so now you need to get all your ducks in a row.  Not only do the ducks have to be in a row they should all be facing in the same direction for your success.  The following are ideas that you best consider as you start your network marketing career.

Remember you are now involved in a real life business.  Even though it is not a brick and mortar business it still is a business that should adhere to the rules of business and everything must be done in a truly professional manner.  You are now a business man/woman and this is not a hobby.  If you want a hobby perhaps you should collect stamps or baseball cards.

Legal Issues  As a true business you are accountable to various government entities for taxes and other items.  You should contact an accountant, that understands home based business and find out what you must do to become completely legal.  You should find out about the tax advantages and liabilities of a home based business.  This information should also include how to keep track of business receipts and what and you can and cannot deduct as legitimate business expenses.

Brand Yourself  You must learn how to brand yourself.  Remember “People Join People and Not Companies” You must learn that network marketing is not a sales business but a relationship and mentoring business.  You should have a good email address that brands YOU.  Companies may come and go but you will always be here.  If you become a leader the people will follow you.  You can easily get a domain address from a variety of domain providers ( I personally use www.godaddy.com). Once you have a domain you can redirect your business URLs to a domain that features you.  Get a domain that has your name in the title such as www.YourName.com and then you can tie an email to this domain such as Bill@BillJones.com.   Avoid ‘Spammy’ sounding names such as BigBucks.com and EasyMoney.com

Communication Get a good telephone system.  It is difficult to run a business with a single mobile phone.  www.Skype.com  is pretty good for overseas calls but landlines work the best for North American  calls.  You should also look into www.oovoo.com and see if you like what they offer. You should get an unlimited phone plan for North America.  It would probably be best to have a good headset for your phone.  Also make sure that you have a good answering service that will pick up if you are on the telephone.  Dropped calls and people who do not return call is very unprofessional.

Contact Management  You should invest in a good contact manager system that will help you keep track of your prospects.  When you start to get hundreds of contacts it is very difficult to keep everything in notebooks and on paper.  I personally use an ACT account manager.  You can check on the Internet for prices of various systems.  Some people use Microsoft outlook.  As a professional you need a system that works for you.  I personally also have a desk calendar where I keep track of appointments.  It works for me, so do what you need to do to keep contact of your prospects and all information relating to them.

Personal Development  If you are going to be a leader,  you must have constant personal development to give you new ideas and successful methods for dealing with your contacts.  Some of the books listed below are excellent and will certainly help in your own personal development.

What is the Purpose of Your Business?

As Michael Oliver would say:

Perhaps your answer might be something like, “Make money” or “To
make a profit” or “To be fulfilled”.

Or, perhaps your answer was, “To help others” or “To help people
solve their
problems.”

The reason we ask the question “What is the Purpose of a
business?”  because your answer reveals something that is vitally

important and can become a constant awareness for you…

your words give you away!!

To paraphrase an ancient saying…

“Your words are an extension of your thoughts
Your actions are an extension of your words
And your habits are an extension of your actions”

What you receive in life, and the way people respond to you, is
based on your words, your actions and your habits. And it all
starts where? With a thought!

Everything starts with a thought. That’s why thoughts are so
powerful. That’s why choosing how you think and act will
determine how life and people respond to you

So back to the original question about the purpose of your
business! The questions you have to ask yourself then, is, are
you really in business for you, (Personal Agenda) or are you in
it for other people (Purpose)? The truth is in the following
question;

If your solution cannot solve someone’s problem, is there any
reason for them to do business with you?

No, there isn’t! So the real purpose of a business then is not
about you and what you want, it’s to help other people solve
their problems, or get what they want, need or desire.

If the purpose of a business is to help other people solve their
problems, you could say that selling is merely a Problem Solving
Exercise. It’s not a telling or persuading exercise. It’s all to
do with problem solving.

You could call yourself a PROBLEM SOLVER! With problems come
opportunities. The opportunity for you is to help others get what
they want and to be rewarded for it.

To Do List for Non Achievers

Over the years, I’ve observed a lot of people who have not achieved what they want in life. These people often have a lot in common. I thought it might benefit YOU to have a list of things NOT to do. So, following is what seems to be a mental “To Do” list for non-achievers:

1. Don’t listen to anyone who has had actual success.

2. Take advice from everybody you know who has never achieved a dream.

3. Plan, plan, plan, and plan some more. Get everything 100% right. Then check it a few more times before you actually DO something.

4. Blame others for your failure to achieve what you want.

5. Take time every day to remind yourself what a loser you are.

6. Repeat the same mistakes over and over.

7. Keep going in the same direction that has never gotten you where you want to go.

8. Don’t do anything to replace those limiting, negative thoughts you’ve always had.

9. Keep spending time around those people who assure you you’ll never be successful.

10. Insist that you are right, no matter what the outcome of any action, because being wrong is worse than failure.

Is there anything on this list that YOU ever do?

If so, how can you change it?

The easiest way to change is to change your attitude and realize that success online will take many, many hours of work and there is no such thing as a ‘get rich quick scheme’ where you can be successful over night.  You need to get knowledge that can be found by taking courses and doing a lot of reading.  Study the subject.  Here is a link that you might consider visiting.  This link deals with affiliate marketing.  http://www.affiliatemarketerscollege.com/
